Another busy day!
September 13, 2011
So much has changed for the good since we first went over to Kenya – but sadly some things have shown no improvement at all.
When Debbie and I first arrived in Nakuru in July 2006 we were pretty shocked to see some of the stark conditions that some of the children lived, within some orphanages. There were babies who were in desperate need of medication and basic provisions and we helped where we could. Other children lived in good loving orphanages and yet they still displayed concerning behaviors and difficulties that were linked to their early life experiences.
It soon became apparent that it was the children themselves who we were best qualified to help.
Well – interviews went really well and have found at least one member of staff that I am very excited about! I heard from the agent that we will know tomorrow WHEN our house will be ready – I am beyond excited about this project!! I am soooo grateful to the help and expertise of Mary from Mission In Action – not only is she a great friend – but such a professional and supportive person to have around at the beginning of a project.
I am sad to report that Mercy (our lady friend) is much worse today despite blood transfusions. She is in and out of consciousness – what a horrid horrid disease.
We are a little closer to finding the girl I am very worried about but finding we need to tread very gently or it will be found out that we are looking for her – and then goodness knows what will happen. Very sadly I also found another young girl that I know very well today. We were visiting a project which supports women in crisis and she was there with her brand new son – 2 weeks old (Absolutely the most beautiful baby) – and his Mummy no more than a baby herself. I will try and find a way to help keep her and her baby together if that is what she wants – such worrying times.
I think I am beginning to understand that just what lies beneath the surface is a crisis and then another crisis and so on. I am DETERMINED that we will help these young girls from lives of hell – I just need to be shown just how we can make that happen – everything is a beginning into a new journey.
If you are reading this and feeling really sorry for these abused young girls and the nightmare that is their lives PLEASE do something about financially supporting their future through Play Kenya. Either e-mail me (

I also went to the ‘home’ of a young boy I supported through his court case on one of my previous visits – life sure is a lottery! Just getting out of the car was a health hazard with human excrement (some in bags) all over the place – flies and worse everywhere – and of course the Kenyan smile from the most beautiful children – humbling or what!
Hopefully signing on the new house tomorrow!
