A tough day!
September 12, 2011
Some days in Kenya are just tough and horrid – with great bits mixed in – This was one! We started this morning meeting the agent about the house sage – and it continued! The people in the house that Play Kenya have rented and paid for are still there with no sign of moving! We spent the morning looking at houses and eventually found a refurbished house, which isn’t finished yet, which will be perfect! We will be able to have 14 girls there, and have volunteer accommodation, and a guest suite! It is going to be wonderful – I HOPE!!! The rent is higher but we will be able to support more girls. We have also been asked to see girls who have been sexually abused at a clinic – and that will work there too. We do need to fund raise to make it sustainable and will be offering sponsorships really soon – so watch this space and PLEASE help us to make a difference!
While we were there we had 2 really distressing phone calls involving young girls. One is a girl I know who has been raped and beaten (she is one of the reasons Rafiki Mwema was born and I was desperate to help) but now she has gone ‘missing’. I cannot go into details here but enough to say imagine your biggest nightmare and she is living it as I type. I am beside my self with worry and fear for her. We have contacts trying to find her and I pray they will be successful – QUICKLY!
The other young girl is 15, her mother has died and she has been providing for her family of 6 and her drunken father. Play Kenya are proud of the role Anisha plays in CP and the speed she responds to a crisis. We wish the children everything positive.
Then up to MIA to celebrate Poopy’s 4th birthday! Can she really be 4! As tradition insists in Kenya, Poopy was ‘washed’ – boy did she enjoy it as the photos suggest! No running away for Poop! Then birthday cake and met the 2 new members of the MIA family – Moses and Peter – beautiful – a mix of emotions today
I am sitting her now worrying about our young girl and feeling so helpless – Rafiki Mwema WILL help save girls from this sickening fate – PLEASE help us
